Children’s Ministry

At First Presbyterian our mission is to provide a safe, nurturing, loving environment where all children feel loved and accepted.
Our Goals are:
  • To show the love of God through our care of children;
  • To provide children with a safe environment where children may grow, learn and play;
  • To provide Biblically based, age appropriate learning experiences, including stories, prayer, and music;
  • To teach children to love, respect, and help one another;
  • To teach children to pray and love.

Nursery
Children are always welcome in worship. However, we do provide quality childcare for young children on Sunday mornings from 8:30-11:30 am. Our nursery is staffed by professional childcare workers and church volunteers. We also offer childcare for infants, toddlers, and twos on Wednesday afternoons and for special programs and events throughout the year.

Nursery - Room 133
Toddlers/Twos - Room 136
Extended Session (Toddlers/Twos/Threes, 10:30-11:30 only) - Room 136

Preschool - Three & Four Year Olds
Sunday School – 9:30–10:15 am, Room 147.
Parents, please note: Children in the nursery, toddler, and twos may remain in their rooms from 9:30 to 11:30 for extended session. All children ages three and older must be picked up by parents promptly after Sunday School at 10:15. Three year old children may attend the first half of worship with their parents before going to Children’s Church, or they may go to extended session in Room 136.

Children’s Church - Children ages 3 through 1st grade are invited to go to Children’s Church during the 10:30 Worship Service. Volunteers and staff lead the children in their own Bible Story time and teach skills that prepare children for worship. Children’s Church is located in Room 151.

Wonderful Wednesdays! - Our Preschoolers engage in a fun, creative learning rotation with Music, Recreation, Bible Exploration, and Crafts before having supper with their families.

Elementary
Sunday School – 9:30–10:15 am.
This fall we offer a traditional classroom model rather than our Rotation Model. Elementary Students will participate in an exciting Faith Journey using a great new curriculum, Faithweaver. Students will be challenged to know, love, and serve God as they learn the story of Scripture and grow in their faith. Our students will have the opportunity to build close relationships with one another and with caring, committed adult teachers as they learn and work together.
  • Kindergarten & First Grade - Room 202
  • Second & Third Grades - Room 203
  • Fourth and Fifth Grades - Room 201
  • Computer Lab - Room 204. The Computer Lab will be used by all our Preschool, Kindergarten and Elementary Classes on a rotating schedule on Wednesday afternoons and Sunday mornings.

Mission Projects
Children at First Presbyterian participate in a variety of mission projects throughout the year as part of our effort to learn about our world and share God's love with those in it.

Mission projects for 2009-2010 include filling shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child, collecting mittens, gloves, and blankets for Epiphany, and holding a food drive to benefit the Salvation Army. We will also raise money during Lent through Cents-Ability, a program to benefit the Presbyterian Hunger Program. Plans for other hands-on mission opportunities are in the works!
