Purpose Statement
Growing as disciples of Christ…Making disciples for Christ.
A disciple is a student. A Christian disciple is a student of and one who learns from Jesus Christ. First Presbyterian Church believes that our purpose as a church, a community of faith, is two-fold: to grow as disciples of and to bring others into a saving faith of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
The way that we live out our purpose can be explained using three “Greats.” Two “Greats” are from Scripture and one is from the constitution of the Presbyterian Church (USA).
In some ways, our purpose is quite simple. However, to become a disciple of Christ and to make disciples for him is a life-long commitment, but more than that it is a journey that you will share with others. The Christian faith is always personal, but it is never private. That is why we refer to our church as a community of faith. The journey of faith is one that we hope to share with you.
